Weekly #2


Howdy!

Another week has gone by, and I'm here with the second weekly update!

I've spent some time polishing the Steam page for Squars, and I'm pretty fond of this iteration. Check it out and let me know what you think!
SQUARS STEAMPAGE

When it comes to whether I should keep using the #towerdefense tag to describe Squars' genre, I’ve decided to stick with it. It’s the closest match to what people think of when they see the game for the first time!

I'm trying to get as much as I can out of Squars' simplistic style. For instance, here's — in my opinion — a pretty nice energy shield visualization using a simple shader. The shield reacts to damage and gives off a subtle glow!

Also, there's a new tower in the club – Mortar!
It's your classic heavy hitter: long range, big damage, splash included... and yes, it comes with friendly fire too!




CHANGELOG (09.05.2025 – 16.05.2025):

  • Improved Shield Component visuals

  • Shield now turns off when depleted

  • Added support for defining friendly fire behavior for projectiles

  • Added Mortar Tower

  • Explosions now affect targets based on a square-shaped zone — no more relying on a simple circular radius. Yuck!
